Deuter ACT Zero 50 + 15 backpack wins Outside Magazine’s “Gear of the Year” award
This morning, we learned that a perennial Rock/Creek favorite, Deuter, has won the coveted 2011 “Gear of the Year” award from Outside Magazine for their Deuter ACT Zero 50 + 15 backpack! This pack is extremely light for its size; however, unlike other large-capacity ultralight backpacks, it still utilizes durable and abrasion resistant materials. Deuter is known for their long-lasting, well-constructed backpacks, and the ACT Zero 50+15 fits that billing.
I could elaborate further, but Outside Magazine has already done that for us! Sam Moulton, Editor of the Buyer’s Guide, says: “It was that rare pack that we ended up using on just about every mission. The suspension system easily handled big loads, but it was still light and breathable enough for faster, shorter outings. It’s an incredibly versatile pack at a great price.”
The Outside Magazine Buyer’s Guide hits newsstands today, and is always worth a read. Here’s an excerpt of what they had to say about the Deuter ACT Zero 50 + 15:
“Part minimalist fast-packer, part monster hauler, the ACT Zero seemed like the perfect tool no matter what the mission. Technical peak-bagging day trip? We easily fit in a rope, ice ax, full rack, and extra layers. Multi-day expedition? No problem — the 50-liter rolltop cargo area can expand by 15 liters, and the roomy mesh side and back pockets suck up gear. Even better, the simple yet effective suspension system of removable aluminum stays and padded mesh didn’t buckle under almost 60 pounds. But it was the smart details that won us over… at this price, the pack’s a steal.”
The Deuter ACT Zero 50 + 15 is available at Rock/Creek and rockcreek.com, and we can’t wait to hear what adventures you have in store for this backpack. After you’ve hit the trail, hit us up on Facebook and tell us all about it!
